Framing in a picture

There is a hype about taking square pictures. I can't deny that it does have its use especially when the subject is right in the center and is small enough to fit in all. I can only say it has its limitations too.

Traditionally, a portrait picture is used when taking tall objects like human or tower. It would not be nice if the object is squeezed to conform to square frames. It ended with the object becoming less conspicuous.

Landscape pictures are best used when the subject is wide, horizontal or the background is the subject. Group pictures is best taken this way. You won't have too much space on top and below.

Actually, newer idea is to use panoramic pictures for large groups or very broad objects like bridges. It compensates for the lack space to include the complete object.

Taking panoramic pictures vertically may not be a good idea as one end of the object is distinctly nearer to the camera. Distortion may occur.
