When you first open the map. It usually looked like this
If you want to know what is it all about, you can click the icon to the left of the title as shown below
A menu bar will pop up to show the custom layers and the description of the map. Click the icon again and the menu will be hidden.
You can actually click the down arrow to the left of the description.
The description will expand further to show more information like the Blogger page that is in this blog. The blogger page is for users to place comments and suggest/correct paths to me.
Going back to the menu, you can see the list of layers with the name of the layer. Click on the check mark to will hide or show the layer. Noticed there is a down arrow also below the check mark? It expands to show you the list of names of the item in the layer. Not much of a use though. If is more for myself to choose a particular item and edit it. Normal users can only view the item.
To use this map for navigation. Just click the square frame icon on the top left hand side of the screen. The icon is a "view larger map" button.
It will pop up google map with location. I am not sure about iPhone, Android will pop up a Legend screen at the bottom of the screen. Open it and use the back arrow button to close it and you can get the full screen view of the map with location.
Please note that if you close the legend then the map is just an ordinary google map without the legends.
Hope this will help user in understanding how to use Google Map with custom layers.
The URL of the map is https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/view?mid=1d-f3wTmqM3jmT7C1LtTzorsRbGw&ll=1.3569120428774726%2C103.82582225&z=12
To use the map for navigation, use the following URL instead.
To see the map that was shared to you, you just need to go to Google My Maps. The initial view is a list of maps that you "own". Just choose "All" or "Shared" and you should be able to see the maps that was shared to you.
You can also use Google Maps app in your handphone to use "New PCN on Bikes". Before that, you must send me your email that you use to access your own My Maps. This will allow you to be able to view "New PCN on Bikes" on your Google Maps.
First sign in and open Google maps. Go to "Saved" icon and click on it. Scroll down to find "Maps" and click on it. A list of available maps will appear. Choose "New PCN on Bikes" and you can view the map with your location information.
This is so awesome, thanks for preparing this map!

DeletePCN -blue

PARK path -green
Common cycling route path or interconnection road path -Red
Is there a way i can turn off the Bike Shops legend in Google Map? They clutter the screens and are pretty useless.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you should read the page more closely. There is a description on how to turn off a specific layer. Bike Shop is one of them. Thanks.
DeleteMy bad, missed that important information. Thanks for putting in so much effort and time into this. I had been using your map to plan all my cycling routes, and navigation while cycling. Thank you!

DeleteHi Jonathan, I just came across your PCN map. So surprise to see a name that I recognize. Thank you for the detailing it out. It's brilliant!
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting my blog.
DeleteHi Jonathan,
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to say this is an amazing, brilliant piece of work. What I really like is that you have factored in all the safety considerations as well. Thank you!
Jonathan, thank you for sharing your "New PCN on Bikes" map. It is very useful.
ReplyDeleteCould you make the following update for the map?
We can now cross the junction of "Prince Charles Cres / Henderson Rd" and Alexandra Rd by using the traffic lights instead of cross the pedestrain bridge across the Alexandra Rd.
Thanks. Have updated.
ReplyDeleteHi! I commented previously on the Loyang Avenue closure. There is an actual temp PCN made that's paved and ridable on page 3 of the PDF I linked.

Sorry, just bringing it up as I noticed you marked the road closure but now the new PCN portion.
Riding in the direction of Pasir Ris Drive 3 to Changi V, for the new park connector
1) Turn left from Pasir Ris Drive 3 to Loyang Ln
2) Turn left from Loyang Ln to Loyang Dr
3) Go straight all the way until Loyang Cres
4) Turn right from Loyang Dr to Loyang Cres
5) Turn right from Loyang Cres to Loyang Way
After Loyang Way 2:
6) Turn left from Loyang Way into Loyang Way,
7) Turn left from Loyang Way to rejoin Loyang Avenue.
Thanks for all the work you put into your map! I dunno how I can ever cycle with PCN only if your map doesn't exist.
Thanks. Updated.
